Once a stable for horses, now a house of study
A Space of Amplitude and Beauty
Located in one of Baltimore City's most bucolic neighborhoods, the home site of Mount Saint Agnes Theological Center for Women is best described as a "space of amplitude and beauty." The current building was once two: the stable and carriage house for a next-door residence. Built in 1911, the home is located on 1.5 acres of wooded property and bordered at its eastern-most end by a healthy stream.
Offering exquisite privacy and quiet, the center is an ideal location for thoughtful reflection, restful contemplation, and healthy play.
The Center is also within 15 minutes of downtown Baltimore, 30 minutes from BWI airport and five minutes from bus or light rail transportation that connects every corner of the City of Baltimore. Within five miles are several world-class colleges and universities, all with good libraries and excellent theological holdings.
The Center's building seems small from the outside yet actually contains several rooms large enough to accommodate all of the programs, services, and activities of the bustling Mount Saint Agnes. Nearly every room, as you will see, is required to do double-duty: one day a meditation room will be a guest suite; on another, the residents' den may find itself pressed into service for part of the Holy Week Prayer. Follow the links on each page to enjoy a virtual tour of the permanent home for which we are merely temporary stewards. As you do, please remember with us, in prayer, the generous benefactors who made the dream of a home a reality for us all.
The resident co-directors and a small staff moved to this site on the Feast of Saint Agnes in 1998. Very soon thereafter, several neighbors welcomed us with candies, fruit, flowers and introductions to their children and pets. By February 11th, we held a blessing of the new home, with repairs and improvements in full swing. Each room of the house was blessed by a Mount Saint Agnes participant, and those prayers are reprinted in the tour you are about to take.
May all of your dwellings be similarly blessed. And may this virtual welcome encourage you to experience the genuine article one day soon.
